Why You Should Write Thank You Notes After an Interview

job etiquette tips what to ask during an interview job recruiter in Little Rock interview etiquette tips

Discover the advantages of writing thank you notes after interviews, and how they can help set you apart from other candidates.

After a job interview, the thank you note that you write can seal the deal with your interviewer. They give you a chance to reiterate that you would be a great fit for the job, but exactly what is the right way to go about writing one?

1. Paper thank you notes are a novelty.

For hiring managers in Little Rock, there may be dozens of people interviewing for one position. One of the biggest enemies you will face in looking for a job is being remembered after your interview is over. A hand written thank you note is such a novelty that it will bring you to the front of the hiring manager’s mind if your note is sitting on their desk.

2. You can support your interview.

At the end of an interview, one may be asked, “So do you have any questions for me?” This question fills two purposes. Firstly, it allows the recruiter to see what you know about the position, the company, and the culture you will be entering. Secondly, it gives you a chance to ask legitimate questions. What to ask during an interview can vary from hiring timelines to job responsibilities, but it can also open up an opportunity to thank the hiring manager for their answers. If you ask how your position will factor into the company’s realignment, you can thank the interviewer for taking the time to explain a response to your question. They will remember that you were the one who asked that question and suddenly you are more memorable than you may have been before.

3. People will go the extra mile when they are appreciated.

Looking for an employee can be a timely and long process, and often times hiring managers go un-thanked. One researcher even found that expressing gratitude can also motivate future benevolence. If it comes down to you and one other candidate, something as simple as a thank you note may work in your favor.

Writing a thank you note after an interview is a perfect way to set you apart from the other candidates. To find out more about ways to land your next job, contact Apex Staffing by calling (877) 803-3910 to speak with one of our recruiters.
